Boomerang and 3D drawing camera modes are coming to Facebook Stories
Facebook has launched two new camera modes for its Stories feature. Those are 'Boomerang' for videos, and 3D drawing, which can be used in both videos and pictures.
In an attempt to bring its
Stories feature on-par with Snapchat, Facebook has brought the popular
'Boomerang' video effect from Instagram. It allows you to shoot a burst
of photos to then turn into a short looping video. Boomerang videos are
usually quite entertaining and we are glad to see them added to
Facebook.
The other new addition is what
Facebook calls '3D drawing' and is based on augmented reality. Using it
you can draw random stuff on the screen
while or before recording a video. What's unique, you'll see your 3D
drawings as if they are real. This is achieved by using image
recognition software that will "wrap" and fit your sketches with the
surroundings. Whatever you draw also stays static and does not
disappear even if you move the camera away. However, the 3D drawing
technology is relatively new and can be buggy, especially when there are
poor lighting conditions.
For those
unfamiliar, Facebook Stories allows you to post pictures and videos for
other users to view. Your additions appear in a chronological order,
thus creating a "story" of your day. 'Stories' was first implemented in
Snapchat, but has quickly been adopted by rivals Facebook and Instagram,
which have launched their own Stories.
